Why does car insurance cost more for males than females?

I'm guessing because we tend to drive more dangerously, but how is that legal being sexist like that?

1. Men have more accidents. They drive more aggressively, buy faster cars, and they put more miles on them. It's not sexism, it's just arithmetic. Insurance companies use things called actuarial tables, which are solely based on the laws of probability.

10. Well thats the world we live in.They have test that they do and they look at accidents around the U.S. and they look at the age range and sex of who gets into accidents and tickets more. So thats why young males will always have to pay more. But do what I do. Put your insurance in your name and pay your whole year off ahead of time. If you get into a accident at least your rate wont rise until next year or six months later. Its like paying for a accident ahead of time and if you do get into a accident beleive it or not it saves you money. I did it with geico.
11. all of us men know that we are much better drivers than women. the truth of the matter is that there are more men driving. more men use their cars for work, hence they drive more miles than women. men do have more accidents but ask any man and they will tell you that the accident was a womans fault. the main cause of accident is due to women nagging whilst the male is driving. i suggest putting all female passengers in the boot whilst the vehicle is in motion.
12. Same reason they can charge more for single/divorced/widowed people as opposed married people, or a 24 year old as opposed to a 25 year old, or bad credit people as opposed to good credit people. Statistics show they get into more accidents. There's a better chance a man will cost the insurance company more money than a woman of the same age group. Simple as that. Obviously this is a generalization and isn't true in every single case. You can say men take more risks or think up a dozen other reasons this may be so, but all the insurance company cares is how big of a risk you are based on your status in life. Is it right or fair? Only for the insurance company.
