What are the minimum liability requirements for auto insurance in Texas?

What are the minimum liability requirements for auto insurance in Texas? I was notified by my insurance agent that there will be a new minimum liability coverage as of April, 1, 2008 here in Texas. Do any of ya'll know the answer to this? I found some info on the internet, but it only talks about the current minimum requirements, not the ones coming up. I also want to know this information so I can know what to expect and see where my insurance pricing/quote will be ranging. (I am a female, 18, and single). I also dont want to get ripped off :o) Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. From 20/40/15 to 25/50/25 "Texas law states that a person may not operate a motor vehicle in this state unless financial responsibility is established for that vehicle. Most people do this by buying automobile liability insurance. The law currently requires minimum coverage of $20,000 per injured person, up to a total of $40,000 for everyone injured in an accident, and $15,000 for property damage (20/40/15 coverage). On April 1, 2008, the minimum required liability limits increase to $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 for everyone injured in an accident, and $25,000 for property damage (25/50/25). "
  2. Your insurance agent has to know what the minimums are, and the previous poster found them. But I seriously recommend you look at carrying more than the minimum. If you're in a serious accident you can easily exceed the minimums. Usually the extra coverage is not a whole lot of money. One time I was quoted a price of something like $150.00 for the state minimum coverage which was something like 25/35/15 (25,000 for a collision with one vehicle, 35,000 for multiple vehicles, 15,000 in property damage). I asked what it would cost to raise it to 100/100/50. I was told it would be $170.00. I said that I thought that wasn't too bad and I'd love to take it to quadruple my coverage, but I couldn't afford that much. She informed me, no, it wasn't $170 more, it was a total of $170, for $20 more to raise my coverage from 25,000 to 100,000.
