  1. they have to offer some kind of protection to you but how do you know how well they will fight for you if you never see anyone... also check prices to see how close they are to someone better known
  2. Check with your state's insurance department to see if they are licensed to do business.
  3. I used to have Progressive. But then when I had a car change (went from 2 cars to 1) I decided to see about other insurance. I currently have Esurance and paying alot less than I would have to stay with Progressive, even with the change. However, I've never had to "use" them, just pay them money because its the wise thing to do and the law where I live. You drive without insurance...they take your license(12pts) automatically.....so there ya go Hope this helps....and you can pay it online...which is very convienent for me.
  4. NO NO NO!!! Go INTO a State farm office, sit down and talk about your needs. With them you can pay by the month, you can call your office anytime and ask them questions. Its just easier. You pay the same as the online people, BUT it goes down down down every few months as you are careful. I pay $78 a month for TWO cars, zero deductibile comp. and no collision. and $6.88 a month for my scooter when its on the road. The online people are just trying to get market share with slick advertizing and no output of funds, like for offices and such. they make out like bandits!
  5. There are reputable insurance companies that will be cheaper to join via the web because it involves no work on their part. You do your own joining. You could walk into a State farm office and it'll be one price or you could join State farm via a comparison site such as http://4ym8.com/CompareInsurance.html and it'll be cheaper as they'll have no human to pay to get your business. However on the internet it's just as easy to join an insurance company that simply doesn't exist and when you realize of the rip off, you blame the net. Well, don't blame the net, make sure you get insurance from a reputable company, one that you know has been coming through for years, be it from their office or from the net, as metioned, check with your state's insurance department to see if they are licensed to do business then go for the cheapest. period.
  6. Yes, there are reputable online companies, but they all are not. It is your responsibility to check them out and see if they are legit. One of the ways you can do that is by seeing if/how they are rated by A.M. Best or Standard & Poor's. They can tell you the company's stability. Also, you can check with the insurance regulator of your particular state and get a list of reputable companies. You can certainly save money by buying online, just do your homework first. :-)
