Do car insurance companies check police records?

I was in a car accident involving 4 people 2 months ago (pile-up) but the accident wasn't my fault. I made a police report on the spot, but took care of the repairs myself because I knew the insurance company would raise my premium. I was recently involved in an accident in another city and I did make a claim. The insurance company is paying for it, but I fear that they will find out about the other recent accident in the other city and think that I am lying and make me pay them back. Will they check with just the city I made the claim for or will they find out about the other claim? If so, how can I prove my innocence if the recent accident wasn't reported to the police? Am I screwed?

  1. IN SOME STATES YES, BUT THEY WILL FIND OUT ANYWAY AND WHEN THEY DO YOU COULD BE BACK CHARGED FOR THE DIFFERENCE THAT YOU WILL OWE.
  2. I dont think ur screwed,u paid for repairs to ur car in accident #1 ,ok it does sound a bit dodgy but if u have any reciepts to back up ur crash#1 repairs I think u ok,but I dont think they check anyhow. But if it is legit u can say u are just unlucky ,I think u will be ok.
  3. If you repaired your car from the first accident, just track down your reciepts and you shouldnt have any problem proving no prior damage. I dont think you can prove innocence if no accident report was made, unless the other party was honest and admitted fault. good luck
  4. If I understand your post. You were not at fault for the first accident. Not sure why you didn't require the person at fault to repair the damage. Anyway, all you did was fill out an accident report. It is not listed on the DMV site as a ticket if you didn't receive one. The second accident, if your fault could cause an increase in your premiums, depending on how long you have been with your carrier. Whether law enforcement comes to the scene or not, you will have a claim with the national data-base for your accident. Most states require that you submit a police report for any accident.
  5. It's entirely possible they will find out you were in a non fault accident two months prior, and it shouldn't make any difference on the current claim. But if you weren't at fault, why didn't you collect damages from the person AT fault? A non fault accident where your insurance company doesn't pay anything thing out is NOT going to raise your rates.
  6. Hey guy the whole thing of car accidents is this,it takes a good deal of time before anything is settled and it is always best to let the insurance companies deal with any/all accident claims.Let the police department deal with the following items and just relax.1. Who caused the accident 2. Were there any witnesses who saw it.3. Direction the vehicles were travelling and at what speed.Your insurance company will contact you and it is your duty to report all the facts to the best of knowledge you already know about. The law says that you have 10 days to report the accident to the DMV and the police departments in both towns,if not then yes you are in trouble because you had failed to report the accident in a timely manner. If you are at fault then you have to pay the bill to the other parties insurance company. If not then they have to pay you for all damages made on the claim forms.Hope I helped you out on this question.
  7. If you are in UK you are obliged to tell your Insurance company if you have been involved in a road accident within a specified time. That means any accident, not one that you care to mention or one that you do not mention. It may come back on you, but in all probability not if everything was sorted out to the satisfaction of those concerned.
  8. You have a duty under your insurance policy to advise them of any incident - you could have just told them that it was for information only (and I suggest that you still do), so although your aim was to defraud your insurance company and probably as a result invalidate your insurance (with the result that you are now sweating when you NEED the benefit of the cover) it was all so unnecessary - I advise you to tell them as above asap. I would expect that the insurance company will still handle your claim for your own damage (especially if there has not been a renewal date in between - but let this be a salutory warning to you.
