Best car for a first time driver in terms of insurance etc?

Hi, My girlfriend is taking her test soon and if she should pass was wondering which would be the best car to get her in terms of cheap insurance? Is there any sites that list insurance by car model? And any other general first car advice is welcomed. We are in the UK by the way. Thanks guys!

1. You want a safe car with not too much power. A renaut clio .2 is a good one cos they are quite sturdy, easy to use and not too powerful, but powerful enough for the moment. Also the parts are not too expensive as lots of people have them.
2. 10 Year old Mercedes Benz.
3. A ford fiesta, easy to drive passed first time in one, mind you that was many years ago, and i still drive a fiesta. good luck to her whatever car she drives for her test

5. fiat panda old style, fiat 500 etc or anything that qualifies for classic insurance
6. I had a ford fiesta 2003 and it was really cheap on insurance for me. Have a look on www.whatcar.co.uk it might have something on there for you to look at. Good luck to ur girlfriend hope she passes.
7. A low cc Parkers price guide in UK or some similar publication will give an indication of insurance groupings for each car mantioned. The actuakl cost is with the insurance company. RAC & AA do NOT give thecheapest deals around. The supermarkets are quite good
