- Try the Post Office. I was astonished to find them the lowest for me. Age 60. 21 years no claims. Low mileage. Car kept in garage overnight. Nissan X-Trail. £139 fully comp., online. I even got £50 cashback when I took out the policy last June. I tried all the usual women's ones, Sheila's Wheels, Diamond, SAGA., etc. All more expensive than the Post Office.

- Although it is tempting to go with the cheapest insurer, make sure you choose a respectable one. I have seen no end of problems with cheap and 'unknown' insurance providers. Personally I would avoid all the RBS insurance companies like Tesco, Direct Line and go for an independent company. You can always ask at your local brokers.
