Why is 6 months of the cheapest car insurance $700? What would be the cheapest provider for me?
Details: Im 19, Had my license for 1.5 years, no accidents, live in an apartment with 2 room mates, good credit, have a 1997 dodge stratus es 4 door, and in college. What would be the cheapest provider to make it legal? Also, are there any tricks I can use to make it cheaper?

- $120 a month isn`t bad Who is the ins. Co? and What coverage??
- That's a pretty good rate for a male under age 25.
- 700 is good for your age. you're 19, you're not going to get cheap insurance. when i was looking for insurance ( i just bought a car) i used geico, they were about the cheapest i could find of all the major brokers. you could try a locally owned broker, see if maybe they'll give you a lower quote. if you have a good gpa you can get a good student discount, which saves some money.
- i am 18. i've been with farmers insurance for a year and its only $68.49/month for me & about $600 for 6 months. my car is a 94 BMW maybe thats part of why its so cheap. the other reason is with farmers you can fax in your GPA for a good student discount, as well as agree to watch a video on safe driving for another discount.after i did this and thats what knocked the price down to what it is now.
- You might get cheaper rates if your parent insure you on their policy as a student.
- At $700 for 6 months at your age with a stratus, you have the cheapest rates you could probably get. You might drop it a bit if you were willing to get rid of the stratus and drive a Taurus, but you wouldn't get that much of a savings if you did. Or, you could get married, that would drop it also. Otherwise hang in there until you hit the magic age of 25.
- Your age and relative lack of driving experience is driving up your rates. Usually your rates won't drop until your married or age 25, whichever comes first. I suggest you vist Geico, esurance, Allstate, Progressive and State Farm's websites and get a quote. If the car is paid for you might want to drop Collision and Comprehensive if you have it-the car isn't worth a whole lot.

- That is a good price (I have seen 19 yr olds pay $3000/yr for insurance in rural New England). If the company writes homeowners insurance (not Progressive or Dairyland) call the agent & see if they will write a tenants policy for you. If the company gives multipolicy credit, you can save 10-15% on your auto policy. This will give you 2 policies for LESS than you would pay for just the auto policy. A tenants policy is a good idea anyway because it will protect you if you accidentally damage the apartment or if there is a fire or theft & your contents are damaged.
- No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web. Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around? the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great. this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins. The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman. Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy. So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net. Good starting point is at this site. http://insurance.deal4-you.com Good luck.
