Is there a website where I can compare how insurance rates differ by city?

A few years back, I moved from a large city in Virginia to a very small town in Pennsylvania. I assumed my car insurance premiums would be lower, since I had been told that car insurance costs more in cities than in the country. Long story short, my car insurance skyrocketed. The agent said it was because car insurance was more costly in Pennsylvania due to its regulations. I'm considering moving to another state, and don't want to be surprised by car insurance. But I can't find a website that lets you compare rates city by city, such as car insurance in city a is usually this percentage more than in city b.

  1. well i don't know much about insurance
  2. You can't find it on the internet, but you can go in person to the state insurance department, and ask to see the filed rates, and look at it yourself. If you can figure it out. Or, you can call a local agent in the new state, near where you're going to live, and ask them to quote you in a few different cities, just to see the comparison. Or, you can go to progressive.com, and do the same thing yourself.
  3. I've found the best way to compare insurance quotes from different companies and it only requires filling out a brief (4-6 minute) form which gets you quotes from 5 different major insurance companies: https://www.hometownquotes.com//index.cfm?action=auto&affid=2084&camp=CompareQuotes
