Car Insurance - Do I have to pay it all at once?
It's that time...I'm looking at cars. But as a student, I'm trying to keep costs low because currently I don't have tons of money. What I'm wondering is, for the car insurance, do I have to pay it all at one time or could I pay it in monthly installments?

- Some companies offer monthly payments, but to get the best deal you need to be prepared to pay 3-6 months at a time.
- Geico you can make monthly payments on line and get a free qoute online
- It depends on your insurance agency. Ask them. You probably will pay a little more for that service.
- It depends on the insurance co. Mine allows me to make automatic pmts monthly. It is Home-Owners Insurance.
- No, you dont have to pay it all up front. Most ins. co. ask for about 2 mths. premiums<2 pymts.> up front, the rest to be paid in monthly pymts. Insurance is very, very expensive for a young person, so be prepared to have to have alot of money. I know. Im putting my 17 yr. old on my ins. , and it still costs alot. Good luck...
- MONTHLY WILL COST YOU MORE IN THE LONG RUN.
- Most insurance companies will allow you to pay in installments, for an additional charge.
- Some you pay monthly, I think, or every 3 or 6 months. My husband has his taken out of his check every week. No worry about bills.
- You don't have to pay it all at once. It is usually cheaper to go on your parents plan. But if you go on your own, you'll probably want to use low liability and high deductibles to keep the installments low. Go to an independent agent with lots of companies (go elsewhere if they only have one -- if they're a captive agent), say what you're looking for, and reveal your driving record and age. If you have been on your parents policy, let them know you have prior insurance -- it'll open you up to more companies. A discount is usually given for paying it all upfront, the size of the discount changes from company to company. But if you're living more paycheck to paycheck, you'll want to do more installments. To get the most installments, you may need to do EFT (have it taken out straight from your bank account).
- 99.9% of auto insurance carriers will allow you to make monthly payments, but, if you are looking to save money, you may want to ask you insurance carrier what the paid in full price would be.... it may be a stretch for you to do now, but it will be cheaper in the long run by making monthly payments....
