WHY WOULD 21yr OLD SON CAR INSURANCE COST MORE FOR 02 FORD FOCUS ZT THAN OTHER 19yr OLD SON 03 BUICK REGAL LS?
Public Comments
- The costs of insurance depends on a variety of factors, from driving record and type of vehicle, to credit rating and ZIP code where garaged.
- Could be a bunch of reasons: 1. the symbol on the Ford could be higher than the Buick 2. The 21 year old could be rated as a primary operator, while the 19 year old is an occasional operator 3. There could be an away at school discount, or a good student discount involved 4. There could be surcharges involved for tickets or accidents on the 21 year old. You'll need to call your agent and ask them.
- Rates demand on a lot of things, including the availability and cost of parts and how the car did in crash tests. My guess is that the Focus didn't do as well in crash testing so the likelyhood of serious damage in an accident is higher.
- Is the 21 year old listed as the primary driver of the Focus? Is the 19 year old primary or occasional driver on the Buick? The "crash rating" and cost of fixing cars gets factored into the rates as well, the insurance co may see the Ford as hard to repair/easy to total compared to the buick. The Focus is also a "sportier" car than the Buick.
- Are the differences significant? Are the rates being quoted by the same insurance company and how does it compare to rates quoted by other companies? Are deductibles and limits the same for both cars? There are lots of other variables to consider too such as their driving records, how the car is being used (pleasure, work and school, miles driven per month, etc.), where the car is garaged, if taken defensive driving course and years since it was taken. Your insurance agent should be able to itemize the diferences for you. If you carry theft coverage then it may have something to do with the theft risk. The 2002 Ford Focus ZT is considered to be a more highly desired car than the 2003 Buick Regal LS by Edmunds.com. So even though the Buick is worth more, the Focus might be at a higher risk of being stolen. Likewise, since the Focus is a more popular and less expensive car then there may be more of them on the road and account for more accidents, which might have some impact on the accident risk rating. If you haven't gone to different insutrance companies then you should do that since premiums vary widely between different companies.
- Insurance depends on many factors such as age, driving, history, type of vehicle and company. Maybe the company you are with rates those two vechicles differently. I would try other companies and see how the quotes differ. You can get an online quote at http://www.auto-insurance-knowledge.com/24-hour-insurance-quote-auto.html This will compare all the companies in your area and find you the lowest prices. Hope that helps
- I DON'T KNOW AND PROBABLY NOBODY ELSE HERE DOES EITHER. THERE COULD BE A NUMBER OF REASONS WHY. MAYBE YOU SHOULD ASK THE INSURANCE COMPANY, I BET THEY WOULD KNOW. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
