Will my car insurance rates go up if the accident is not my fault?
I live in texas and a year ago, rear ended a vehicle in a low speed accident. They made a claim, but I did not. My insurance rates did not go up.

- I could but shouldn't. Here in Mississippi, if you rearend another vehicle, it's automatically your fault. If they claimed, and it was deemed your fault, their insurance company would have made a claim against your insurance company to recoup the cost. Hence, a claim on your insurance. It could take a while for the insurance company to raise your rates, but if its your fault, you can bank on it. If it's not your fault, you should see no increase. But then again, who knows, they need your money tooooo.
- In UK you get a no claims discount of up to 70%. In most cases a claim, costing the insurance company money, means you will have to pay the full amount at policy renewal time. Some companies will allow a couple of claims without losing the discount but of course this costs on the policy.
- In 99% of cases, rear ending someone is your fault. The fact that it is your fault or isn't doesn't automatically increase your rate. It depends on the company and more importantly how vigilant they are in looking at claims.r
- If they paid out on your behalf, the rate may go up but it is not a sure thing. If it has been 1 year and you have received a renewal since and it did not include a surcharge, you probably won't get one now.
- It seems a not easy cracking nut, look around here http://www.Autoinsurancepro.info/auto-insurance-free.htm ,you should find something helpful.
- savannah63638, I suggest you visit a nearby auto insurance agent to help. Since I live in Missouri I can't suggest an agent in Texas, but here is an online resource that can help you. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html Hope it works out
- It is a difference as you were in control of the vehicle. Being on the roadway makes it a not at fault accident. In the parking lot, it is just a hit and run. It would be like whether or not you were parked at your house or driving down the road. Either way, you rates should not go up at all. It was a not at fault accident that you would couldn't control. If your rates do go up, I suggest finding a company that will not raise your rates if you have an accident that is not your fault. Also, a good resource is... http://insurance.deal4-you.com Best of luck to you.
