How does a car insurance company rate you as a new customer?

I am searching for a new car insurance company and want to know what shows up on my driving record. Do the insurance companies communicate amongst themselves about moving violations not reported to the department of motor vehicle? Here is my driving record for the last three years: 02/10/06 - Fail to Control Speed/Ticket - Accident Non-Injury 12/29/06 - Accident Non-Injury Any help would be greatly appreciated.
