Are car insurance rates adjusted by occupation now?
I just got done reading this article on car insurance and occupation at http://www.consumerbadcreditguide.com/carinsurance.html What do you think about this?
Public Comments
- I don't think that they are presently adjusted by occupation, but believe they should be. Studies show that teachers have the highest rate of accidents than nearly any other occupation, with lawyers, and doctors and other health professionals right behind. I think that if you're going to earn big bucks and drive, you may as well have the lion's share of insurance premiums, especially if you're in the highest risk category...
- Sorry I didn't have the time to read this particular article, but some insurance companies (mine is one of them) give discounts to drivers with certain occupations. They give discounts to professional engineers, educators, etc. If you ask me, I think it's silly. Why would an educator be a lower risk then a person working at a supermarket? I guess they have some statistics, and use it. They always go by statistics. By the way, the other person says that teachers have the highest rate of accidents, I do not know, but if it is the case, maybe my insurance company is completely screwed up. Cowboy (answer below): I think that a 40 year old bank president is more at risk to get into an accident when he has his 21 year old secretary in his car and he gets "distracted..."
- Only one company that I represent takes into account your occupation and also your level of education. I don't believe that either of them makes a person a better driver.
- No, however some insurance companies may offer discounts depending on your occupation.
- Do you think that a 40 year old bank president and a 40 year old floor mopper at a skateboard park is at the same risk when driving? I don't.....
- i dont think so...but some car insurance company consuder such thing...you can try and make a search for such car insurance companies and if they do...try sites like this for your search http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com But in my opinion its not adjusting car insurance by occupation in unfair....but still car insurance company has the last words and judgement if whats the right price for you.
