Cheapest car insurance company with the best coverage?

It's time that I start paying for my own insurance since my parents can't afford it anymore and I'm moving out of town. What company has the better deals for a college age (19) driver? Is Mercury insurance my best bet?

  1. Always remember that cheapest is not always best because you get what you pay for. You want to make sure you go with a company that will give good service and that pays it's claims in a timely manner. I have never heard anything bad about Mercury insurance so they may be ok. Also get a quote from progressive and geico they give free quotes online. good luck.
  2. Premiums can vary by hundreds of dollars from one company to the next. What company offers one person the lowest premium may not be the best rate for another. As far as coverages, most insurance companies offer pretty much the same options. If you want to find the lowest premium and are willing to comparison shop then I would suggest using some of the free on line insurance quoting services. There is one insurance consumer site in particular that I think is one of the best http://www.InsuranceEasy.org They offer direct links to some of the better and reliable free on line quoting services and some of the top on line insurance companies. By using several of the links that they provide in their auto insurance section you will most likely find the best rate for you. Plus they have free resources to help you understand the different coverages. I have shared this site with my nieces and nephews who were all able to save money on their auto insurance. I have read a lot and researched some of these sites and read where the average consumer who uses these free on line services save on the average around 30% to 40%. Hope this helps you!
  3. For car insurance the best way to get a low rate is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar policies with the same limits, auto make, location, etc so that all options are a good comparison. What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have top name insurers and can give many prices on auto insurance polices.
  4. call a local independent agent where you are going to be living. they will find you the best coverage with the best premium. they write for a lot of companies and can compare for you. its best to have an actual human agent where you live too.
  5. I have found that the most affordable insurance companies for teen drivers are Progressive and Geico. There isn't really one set company that is better than the rest though. Some companies specialize in certain types of drivers. Another huge factor is your location. Insurance varies greatly from city to city, so what might be good for me (in Houston) might not be the best for you. Make sure you ask about any discounts you might qualify for such as the good student discount (B average or better). That will definitely help you get a lower premium. I recommend comparing quotes from atleast 3-5 different insurance companies to see who offers you the best rate. Research is key to finding cheap insurance. I would stay away from internet based companies like Esurance because I have heard some negative things about them. Sometimes a company is really cheap but then they don't want to pay you when you get in to an accident. There's nothing worse than fighting with the insurance company for a settlement. The site below is really helpful because it allows you to compare rate quotes for all of the insurance companies in your area for free so you can find the best rate for you. Hope this helps!
