Anyone work for an car insurance company or experience? Please help.?

Okay this is my situation. My mom and I have a car, that is in my name alone. I don't drive the car because I simply don't have the money to pay for the high insurance costs. My mom paid for insurance in her name to drive the car. She was listed as an operator. They still put my name on it because the car was in my name. But I was not an operator. And so our costs were low of course. At the time, I had a permit. When I got my license, I input my name and info to add a driver online thinking I would get a quote for how much it was going, but it actually added me, and when I called the company telling them about the misunderstanding, they said they couldn't take my name off the policy as a driver because I have a license, and that the car is accesable to me because I do have a license(liability). Now the premium has gone up excessively. They said that I can't take my name off the policy unless I don't live at home, or give up my license. Is this truly the only options?

  1. You must have the insurance in your name if you are the owner of the vehicle. The insurance company has no insurable interest otherwise. So of course, you would also be listed as a driver as you would be a named insured. If you dont want the insurance in your name and you want to keep it in her name transfer the title to her. However, even if you are still a regular user of the vehicle or live in the same house as the owner you would have to go on the person's policy as a listed driver anyways, even if you transfer the title to her name.
  2. Talk to some other insurance companies and get their quotes.,, You can probably beat your present carriers premium amount. Its worth a try.
  3. Yes, that is the way it works. Their reasoning is that anyone in your household has access and can drive the car (even if they are not supposed to) and if they did drive the car and were involved in an accident, the insurance company by law, must pay. Hence they insist any and all in the household be listed and your premiums are adjusted accordingly
  4. yes they are correct. you are now licensed you now have to be rated. the policy should be in your name (as you are on the title) and your mom should be listed as an additional driver.
  5. Hi, Good post. I had some problems with my car after I had an accident. My Insurer wanted to raise my rates $525 a year! I've never even gotten a speeding ticket! I looked for a new provider and found this website: http://www.ironless.com They compare all of the major insurance providers and give you the best deal. I ended up saving over $300 from what I was previously paying (that's $825 a year!). Good Luck
