Unitrin Direct Auto Insurance (Any good?)? Asked by: hyphenga-ga I recently responded to an e-mail for a free auto insurance price quote (I'm in California). I wasn't really looking to shop around - and wasn't planning to switch companies to save a buck or two, but I was kinda shocked when the price quote I got from Unitrin Direct (same coverage limits and deductibles) was $510 less than I'm paying now. I called and asked what the catch was and they said they sell direct with no agents/offices and pass the savings onto the customer (logical, but obviously scripted answer). They also touted an A.M. Best "Excellent" rating, but what good is financial stability if they bungle claims (for example) or have terrible customer service? So I guess I'm looking for a little confidence - or a big fat warning - before I jump into anything. Are they reputable? Is there any objective info available about them? (I'd love any good/bad comments from Unitrin customers out there too.)

It is more than half the price of the next lowest quote I found. The thing is that the next lowest quote came from the same auto insurance casualty company but through a different agent. They told me that if he had the VIN of the vehicle then there could be no problem as far as classification of the type of commercial vehicle. Would an auto insurance company have a reason to ignore the fact of having an incorrect VIN Number? I got a dui years ago and have now saved enough to buy my car and get it on the road. The risk of my age and record, I found myself going through an insurance company that looks like it literally has holes in the wall. Their advertisement is that they will accept anyone. And they will for the month to month price they can get. I noticed they copied down the wrong vin number for my vehicle. They stated that it was not important for sr22's. I had some spare time later and went back with the correct one written down for them to copy. In front of me they wrote down the wrong number off the sheet I handed them. "well okay... I'm just going to write down this". "it shouldn't be a problem" Is basically what they said to me during the process. is there any reason they would avoid using correct info? Or is it really just not that important? (PS The number on my mailed insurance cards is incorrect and I just wrecked the car last week).
How to get into a new Car Insurance? About 1.5 yrs back my wife scratched another car while parking. The claim was settled using insurance. The expense was about $1500. Ever since that the insurance company, AAA, has been increasing our premiums by abt $35 on every renewal. Now I cannot switch or shop with other insurance company since they give quotes much higher than this company. But apart from this one incident we do not have anything else on our record. Why do people drive without auto insurance? Don't give me because it costs too much and they cant afford it. I think it's the price of having a car. You wouldn't get a car and say "well tires are expensive, I can't afford them" you just need them. The point of insurance is to be able to afford to fix any damages you may cause to another driver's car or person. If I wrecked someone's car I would certainly want the other person to be able to get their car fixed or replaced. And if there was injury I wouldn't want someone else saddled with huge medical bills because of a mistake I made. Is that just me?

Unsure about auto insurance law? I got a great quote (liability only) from an agent who went through the big auto insurance casualty company for my commercial vehicle. It's almost too good. It is more than half the price of the next lowest quote I found. The thing is that the next lowest quote came from the same auto insurance casualty company but through a different agent. And, I have gotten other quotes through several different agents through the same casualty company. I called the big company directly and told them the situation. They told me that if he had the VIN of the vehicle then there could be no problem as far as classification of the type of commercial vehicle. My major concern is that should there be an accident, and this lower priced insurance that I am paying was not accurately quoted by the agent, am I liable for damages? Are there clauses in the paperwork or contracts that protect me from this situation? Will I be obligated to pay the balance of what I was misquoted if an accident occurs?
Auto Insurance?? I was just wondering what people thought is a good price to pay monthly for auto insurance? I went to Progressive.com and saw they have different plans available...I went with one that looked like it had a bunch of things and was around 94ish dollars a month...couple of questions though What is the average you think I should pay? (No traffic violations in the last x amt of years, not since 98, fyi) Also, do you think its worth it for more fuller coverage if I'm going to actually own the car outright and not make payments? Where to buy cheap auto insurance? Im 19 years old and I have had my license for about a year. I have no speeding tickets and have never been in a wreck. My driving record is picture perfect. I have been driving my moms car and she has had me under her insurance so it was really cheap. Retroactive auto insurance premium? I obtained an auto insurance policy in August 2007. In January 2008 (five months after the policy was purchased) I received my policy renewal. The renewal price was substantially more than the initially policy cost because the insurance company had written my original policy with innacurrate information (assumptions they made that were incorrect, there was no falsification on my part). I cancelled the policy and found a new provider. The insurance company then sent me a bill retroactively charging me for the original policy with the new information and premium changes. Can they retroactively charge me for the policy that I had already paid in full based on our original agreement? Does the insurance company have any legal recourse or right to collect this money? I already filed an official complaint with the NJ Dept. of Banking and Insurance and am waiting to hear back. BTW don't need people's opinion, looking for response from someone who knows the laws in regards to this Don't trust Allstate Incorrect assumptions by the agent include homeowner status, and participation in a payment plan I was never enrolled in or agreed to. I understand that they can change my premium based on this information, the thing I'm disputing is that they changed my premium five months after the fact and billed me for coverage I had already paid for. I did not know about the incorrect information until I recieved the renewal, does anyone really read their declarations cover to cover? I have been trying to resolve this with everyone, from the agent to Allstate HQ in IL, its under review but judging by the way they have conducted business so far I doubt anything productive will occur

Can I get auto insurance with a warrant?? I just recently got a warrant for missing my court date, it was for driving without a license...and I purchased a new vehicle which I would have to get full coverage insurance on. Will that warrant just affect the price or will they not allow me to get insurance at all??

Auto Insurance: Which cars are better?!? I am in the market for a new car. I am trying to do some research on insuring the car I might be getting. I was quoted $6,000 for full coverage on a 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan (per year) from my current insurance company. My insurance now is $1,700 (per year) and I drive a red 2000 Ford Taurus, just liability. What would be some suggestions on picking a car?
